Reaching the Unreached 2012

Here are some quick links so you can jump to the section you’re interested in:

Getting started…

Nobody said building churches would be easy. New churches are being started, established churches are being renewed and forgotten communities are being reached, yet there remains so much left to do. How do we get started? How do we keep going? How can we build churches that have enduring Gospel impact in the hard places of the UK?

Getting started and keeping going – a weekend of discussion, prayer and teaching for all those with a heart to see enduring gospel ministry on UK estates.

With:

  • Andy Mason – St Johns, World’s End Estate
  • Duncan Forbes – New Life, Roehampton
  • Efrem Buckle – Calvary Chapel, South London
  • Julian Rebera – New Life, Brighton
  • Mez McConnell – Niddrie Community Church, Edinburgh
  • Simon & Lizzie Smallwood – St George’s, Dagenham
  • Steve Casey – Speke Baptist Church, Liverpool

18th-19th May 2012
The Noah’s Ark Centre, Speke, Liverpool

Seminars

Responding to feedback from Reaching the Unreached 2011, this year we are introducing
seminar options for the after-lunch session on Saturday afternoon. There are four options –
please choose your seminar when booking your ticket.

Getting started – practical foundations for an estate ministry with enduring gospel impact

Simon Smallwood and Steve Casey.

Simon – who took over as Vicar of St George’s Dagenham, East London, over 15 years ago, and Ste – Pastor of Speke Baptist Church, Liverpool, who led a team that replanted that church over a decade ago, will give their reflections on beginning a ministry in working-class and disadvantaged areas. Si and Ste will discuss what worked, what didn’t and what they’d do differently now.

Keeping going – a realistic view of keeping going in the face of challenges and obstacles to growth in an estate context

Julian Rebera

Work in our context is often slow and faltering, with many pastoral issues, disappointments and struggles. Keeping encouraged is essential because if the
leader is not encouraged the morale of the whole church will be affected. Julian, Pastor of New Life Church, Brighton – which he planted on the Moulsecoomb estate over 15 years ago – shares a few of the things that help him to keep faith and stay on mission.

Raising and training leaders in working class and disadvantaged areas

Mez McConnell

Mez will speak about his experience of raising and training leaders at Niddrie Community Church, Edinburgh, and then run an extended Q&A. Mez has pastored NCC since 2007, prior to which he spent 4 years with UFM Worldwide working with street children in Brazil, planting the Good News Church in one of the most deprived parts of the country.

Being a woman with enduring gospel impact

Lizzie Smallwood

Lizzie will give a woman’s perspective on dealing with the challenges and making the most of the opportunities of living and being part of a congregation in a UPA context. Lizzie is a member of St George’s, in Dagenham, where she and her husband Simon have now lived for over 15 years.
